Ukrainian Justice Minister Denys Maljuska has shown Ukrainian television images of a prepared camp for Russian prisoners of war. “The detainees receive adequate living conditions and medical care,” he assured – explaining at the same time that the Russians had to work. “You engage in wood processing and make yourself useful to Ukrainian society.”
The camp is located in the west of the country, according to the minister. In total, there are 51 prisons in almost every region where POWs are housed separately from ordinary prisoners by international standards. Maljuska gave no information on the total number of Russian prisoners of war.
According to previous statements, it should have been around 700. The Russian side claims to have captured about ten times as many Ukrainians since the invasion began in late February. The information on both sides cannot be checked independently of each other.
