Abuses exposed – questionable conditions in Salzburg’s retirement homes

Date:

Gruesome details continue to emerge about abuses in retirement homes in Salzburg. For example, incorrectly recorded funds led the control agency to assume a lack of transparency in its report.

The scandal surrounding Salzburg’s retirement homes is spreading. As reported exclusively by the “Krone”, a report from the control agency shows that there are huge shortcomings in economic management. For example, the city budget in 2016 and 2019 showed too little expenditure by 260,000 euros. Moreover, these expenses were then called subsidies. The control agency clearly notes a lack of transparency.

Fewer staff
As already mentioned, there is not even a savings account with income from an event. There have also been major shifts in personnel: where there were 104 registered nurses working in 2017, there were only 69 at the end of 2022. This contrasts with an increase in the number of assistants from 281 to 323.

“Unbelievable conditions”
The inspection of senior housing goes back to a request from the municipality of FPÖ from 2018 and an application from the Green Citizens List from 2021. The city boss of the “Blue Party”, Paul Dürnberger, says: “The audit report reveals incredible circumstances that indicate on a large-scale failure of the responsible municipal SPÖ.” The audit report will be discussed in the audit committee on Monday.
