In early August, a Russian man set out with his brother and cousin for a boat trip in a rubber boat – after two months, the 46-year-old was accidentally rescued from the Pacific Ocean. Unfortunately, his companions were not so lucky.
The trio left a cape in the Khabarovsk region on August 9 towards the city of Okha on Sakhalin Island. Subsequently, contact with the small boat was lost. After a month of searching, the operation was finally called off.
There were still bodies on board
In any case, 67 days after departure, the 46-year-old sailor was rescued by fishermen who saw the boat in distress. The survivor’s 49-year-old brother and 15-year-old nephew did not survive the months-long ordeal in the Pacific Ocean. Their bodies were also still on board the boat when rescuers arrived.
“On October 14, a ship was discovered in the waters of the Sea of Okhotsk,” judicial authorities in the Russian Far East said on the messaging app Telegram. The man had tied a red flag to a short pole of the double-hulled inflatable boat. The maritime area extends to 1.58 million square kilometers.
Survivor lost 50 pounds of body weight
The man lost 50 kilograms of weight during his wanderings – he received medical care. The boat was found about 1,000 kilometers from its original destination, Russian Telegram channel SHOT reported.
