“I told him never to show up again”: Maria B., a farmer and determined owner of a farm shop in Mauthausen (Upper Austria), caught a serial thief who repeatedly stocked her cider and reached into the cash register for weeks.
It is an annoying problem that irritates many farmers who run farm shops. We are talking about those ‘customers’ who shop not only cashless, but also ‘free’ – in other words: fingers crossed.
Maria B., who has been running a small farm shop in Mauthausen for a year, also had a persistent guest for about three weeks, who was also particularly thirsty: “He kept coming, usually on Sundays, took the must and did not pay, but also grab the cash register. We have a surveillance camera and have filmed everything. But that didn’t do us any good, because we didn’t know who he was.
Unloved “regular customer”
The “regular customer” came by again on Sunday. Maria B.: “I saw him passing by on his bicycle. When he saw me, he continued cycling. I’m in the house. Then I thought: I’ll get in the car and follow him. He had already returned and was in the farm shop.”
The determined farmer’s wife told the thief not to show up again. He ran away. The alerted police were able to arrest him fifteen minutes later. The Baltic man (48) admitted that he was in custody awaiting extradition due to his residence ban.
