Shocking theory of the accident
Despite the mysterious disappearance, investigators suspect an accident without any outside influence. “We rule out all other theories,” said Mallorca’s deputy police chief, Fernando Reboyras.
The police assume that the 24-year-old was waiting for the bus near the Palma marina on the night of October 1 to 2 after a night of partying. She was probably trying to get something out of a container when she suddenly fell into it. Due to her drunken state, as witnesses reported, she was subsequently unable to free herself.
Mortal remains cremated
In the early hours of the morning, a garbage truck emptied the container and headed to the Son Reus incinerator near Palma. The researchers assume that the young woman lost her life during this journey. “There is a lack of oxygen in the vehicle and a compactor is constantly compressing the waste. Survival under these conditions is impossible,” said Ángel Ruiz, head of the research team.
The search for the remains has so far been unsuccessful. Police suspect that the Argentinian’s body was cremated at the waste incinerator, making solving the case even more difficult. Lead investigator Ruiz concluded: “This tragedy fills us all with deep sadness.”
