A five-year-old child lit a lighter in his grandfather’s workshop on Monday evening and accidentally caused a fire in the outbuilding of the farm in southeastern Styria. 90 Florianis fought the flames, no one was injured.
A family experienced anxious moments on their farmland in Bierbaum am Auersbach (Southeast Styria district) on Monday evening. After the mother, 31, returned home from a walk with her five-year-old son and fed the family dog, the boy went unnoticed into an outbuilding that his grandfather uses as a workshop and storage space.
The boy came into the house crying
There the boy probably discovered a gas lighter and used it to set fire to a cardboard box. When the fire broke out, the five-year-old ran back into the house crying and informed his mother.
When the fire brigade arrived, the adjacent building was already completely ablaze. Seven fire brigades with 90 men were deployed.
No people or animals were injured in the fire; the extent of the material damage is not yet known.
