The Israeli army says it has killed the bodyguard of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar. Mahmoud Hamdan was knocked out during a clash with Israeli forces in the southern Gaza city of Rafah, the army said.
Hamdan died on Friday just 200 meters from where the Israeli army killed Sinwar on Wednesday.
Hamdan was the commander of the Hamas battalion in the Rafah district of Tal al-Sultan. He had served as Sinwar’s bodyguard in a house in Tal al-Sultan until shortly before his death.
Hamdan was also responsible for guarding the six Israeli hostages killed by his men in August. The Israeli army found their bodies in a tunnel under Rafah. It also came across DNA traces from Sinwar. The Islamist Hamas has not yet confirmed Hamdan’s death
