The strike day at the Mercedes Benz factory in Vitoria-Gasteiz, the main industry in the Basque Country with 5,000 employees, has a “mass” reactionaccording to union representatives, since the 95% of the workforce supported the strike So, the factory has started the day and the workshops have stopped

“We expected a response of this type, especially given the company’s attitude to the agreement,” explained workers’ representatives in front of Euskadi Irratia’s microphones. “We think it’s pretty clear that people don’t want the sixth night, they don’t want more flexibility because what there is is enough,” they added.

These strikes are due to the lack of progress in the negotiation of the agreement, the last meeting It was held last Friday with no closer positions with the company and no new date to negotiate, as the company informed them of its intention not to hold new meetings as long as there are strikes.

The strike started around 5 a.m. with the informative pickets and although the trade unions organized this conference separately, CCOO and UGT on the one hand, and ELA, LAB and ESK on the other, called on all employees to participate in a joint demonstration at 11:00 around the companyaccording to union sources.

For their part, the company’s executives point out that they find the response to the investment plan “incomprehensible and harmful” as an “incomprehensible and harmful” strike. The company calls on all employees to take responsibility so that “they don’t support the strikes” and recalled that the door remains open for negotiations.

In any case, the unions warn that the company has launched a joint pressure strategy with local governments and institutions to accept flexibility.

Considering this, the deputy general of Álava, Ramiro Gonzalez, has called on both sides to negotiate and reach an agreement. In that sense, he recalled that there is a lot at stake, namely an investment of 1.2 billion euros.
