After his conviction for defamation of two election workers, Rudy Giuliani, the former private lawyer of ex-US President Donald Trump, must hand over valuables and his luxury apartment in Manhattan to the two women. In December 2023, Giuliani was ordered to pay Ruby Freeman and her daughter Wandrea Moss $148 million. He has now filed for bankruptcy.
A judge on Tuesday ordered Giuliani to turn over “all property listed below, including cash accounts, jewelry and valuables,” as well as his outstanding legal fees and his apartment.
Falsely accused of election fraud
The former New York mayor falsely accused the two women of election fraud and made other baseless claims about them. After the verdict and the fine, Giuliani filed for bankruptcy in a New York court in December.
After Trump’s election defeat, Republican Giuliani was a central figure in the incumbent president’s efforts to overturn the election results using baseless allegations of fraud and remain in office.
Giuliani used to be highly regarded across party lines. Because of his calm response to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 in New York, the then city leader was elevated to ‘America’s Mayor’ by talk queen Oprah Winfrey. Giuliani later became Trump’s loyal and often aggressive companion – ever since he has been an irritant to Trump’s opponents.
