Was a Putin critic – oligarch “falls” out of the window – family doubts

Date:

Reports of top Russian executives falling to their deaths from tall buildings have become increasingly common recently. But now the family of Putin-critical oligarch Mikhail Rogachev doubts the official information from the authorities.

Rogachev was the former vice president of the now collapsed oil giant Yukos. According to Russian media reports, he fell from the tenth floor of an apartment in Moscow. The authorities’ verdict was quick and clear: the former top manager allegedly threw himself to death.

The official version raises doubts
There he was eventually found by an employee of the Russian foreign intelligence service. As the Russian state agency Tass reports, the 64-year-old was previously diagnosed with cancer.

But the official version raises doubts: the manager actually had health problems, but not critical ones, family members now say via Telegram. There were no signs of suicide; in fact, he was in a ‘good mood’ beforehand.

Man suddenly disappeared
His wife reported that Rogachev actually just wanted to lie down. Shortly afterwards, he suddenly disappeared, the window was open and numerous papers were scattered on the floor.

In 2007, Rogachev became deputy general director of Vladimir Potanin’s Norilsk Nickel. Potanin is now Russia’s richest man and has been sanctioned by Britain as part of Putin’s “inner circle.” Now Rogachev joins a long line of unexplained deaths of leading Russian figures under mysterious circumstances.

The Russian authorities usually make decisions quite quickly
For example, in September 2022, Lukoil tycoon Ravil Maganov fell from a window at Moscow’s Central Hospital, also known as the Kremlin Clinic. Russian state media quickly declared his death a suicide, but law enforcement sources said there was no suicide note and that the part of the building where Maganov fell was not covered by surveillance cameras. He was replaced in October 2023 by Vladimir Nekrasov, who died of “acute heart failure” in October 2023 at the age of 66.

Dead business bosses cause commotion
The following month, Russian senator and war lawyer Vladimir Lebedev, who had close ties to Lukoil, died suddenly at the age of 60 in an unexplained “terrible tragedy.” The Russian magnate was found by his boss in the toilet of his office. In March, 53-year-old Lukoil vice president Vitaly Robertus became the latest victim of a killing curse that has struck Lukoil, a leading company that supports Putin’s regime.

Then a prominent judge was found dead after falling from a Moscow skyscraper. But reports of several other dead Russian business bosses have repeatedly caused international outrage since then.
