A Styrian is on trial in Graz on Wednesday for attempted murder. According to the prosecutor’s office, he wanted to find a killer through an acquaintance on Darknet who had to ‘clean up’ his ex-girlfriend’s new partner. The plan never came to fruition and the acquaintance went to the police. The suspect denied the crime. The hearing takes place for the second time. The first trial ended in February this year without a verdict due to lack of evidence.
Prosecutor Stefan Pirker says the 27-year-old suspect has always had problems with divorces. Especially if ex-girlfriends had a new partner. For example, after the latest divorce, the Styrian is said to have “built up pressure with widespread suicidal tendencies.” Then he organized a loyalty tester. “So your ex-girlfriend has a new boyfriend, she’s happy, but she doesn’t like it,” sums up Judge Hanspeter Draxler. “No. I wanted her to come back to me.”
But discrediting the rival with an affair backfired. So we had to come up with a new plan. “We have to clean it up,” he is said to have told an acquaintance. “But I just meant I want to break them up, break the relationship.” – “Well, in normal usage, cleaning up doesn’t mean ending a relationship,” the judge clarifies.
“Unfortunate choice of words”
That was probably an unfortunate choice of words, the defendant tried to put into perspective. There was never any mention of a Darknet killer. His acquaintance suddenly said that the new man could have been in a car accident. “And why should her acquaintance falsely accuse her?” Draxler wants to know. “Because he owes me 380 euros. Even though that sounds strange,” the 28-year-old admits.
“Ain’t in Chicago”
“We are in Hirschegg and not in Chicago,” emphasizes Georg-Christian Gass, the defender of Styria. “How’s that supposed to work? There will be mafia murders, but probably not.” A verdict will follow on Thursday.
