The weather during the autumn holidays could not be more typical for this time of year. In the lowlands, the high fog often creates cloudy conditions and the sun first has to make itself felt against the often quite harsh gray. However, in the mountains and hills there are plenty of hours of sunshine. But there is a change in the weather on the horizon.
The southerly winds from Foehn are currently bringing very mild air into the mountains. In the Alpine region in the west, apart from patches of mist in the valleys in the morning, it is often completely sunny during the day. The maximum temperatures reach up to 22 degrees.
The Sunday starts in the north, east and southeast with sometimes persistent fog and high fog, especially in typical regions such as the Danube Valley, the Waldviertel and Weinviertel, the Vienna Basin and the southeastern foothills of the Alps. On the southern side of the Alps, even thicker dust clouds develop in the morning with associated local rainfall. Elsewhere the day starts sunny.
In the afternoon most of the fog lifts and the sun shines more and more often. Early temperatures are between seven and 13 degrees, peak values reach 14 to 21 degrees, with it being warmest from the Mostviertel to the Pongau.
Temperatures up to 20 degrees!
Also up Assembly In the typical foggy areas in the east and southeast, thick fog and high fog fields will persist throughout the day. The sun rarely shines here. Fog fields are also persistent at times in the southern basin areas. In the other regions, the day is mainly sunny from the start, with only a few veiled clouds temporarily dampening the sunshine. Early temperatures are between four and twelve degrees, daily maximum temperatures reach 13 to 20 degrees.
Ben Tuesday In the lowlands and higher areas in the north, east and southeast, it is usually constantly foggy and cloudy, with little chance of sunshine. In the Alpine region in the west, apart from patches of fog in the valleys in the morning, it is often clear and sunny during the day. According to the forecast from Geosphere Austria (formerly ZAMG), it will be three to ten degrees at the beginning of the day, and will rise to eleven to 17 degrees during the day.
There are also the best conditions for hiking: the zero degree limit will fluctuate between 3,000 and 4,000 meters in the coming week, and even at an altitude of 2,000 meters, temperatures will sometimes reach double figures on the local peaks.
Start of winter on All Saints’ Day?
The stable weather situation with warm autumn weather is likely to continue until next Thursday, but then there will be signs of a “huge change in the weather”, according to Geosphere meteorologists. The Alpine region is expected to be flooded with cold air from the northeast from All Saints’ Day onwards.
A temperature drop of 15 degrees Celsius is expected on local mountains, and at 1,500 meters above sea level, temperatures could drop to at least minus five degrees, according to Geosphere Austria. But the meteorologists aren’t quite sure yet…
