In Gröbming in Upper Styria, the number of strange car defects increased. Now the reason for this is known: at a gas station, diesel instead of premium petrol flowed from the pump for days. It is now clear who is responsible for this.
Cars only start after three or four attempts or stuttering on slopes. Some car owners from the Ennstal have recently complained about this.
An affected person turned to the “Krone” on Wednesday: he had taken his car to a car workshop for a “sticker” check last week, where the vehicle was not running smoothly. While looking for the cause, a mechanic discovered that diesel had mixed with petrol in the tank.
The affected Ennstaler is far from alone with his problem: Upon request, a workshop owner from the region confirmed two similar cases in vehicles brought to his company for repair. Recently, an increasing number of such cases have been treated at the ÖAMTC base in Schladming.
Underground tank filled incorrectly
Now it is clear why this series of defects has occurred: at an Avanti filling station in Gröbming, diesel came out of the premium gas pump from May 31 to June 2! This was confirmed on Wednesday by OMV, operator of the discount gas station. A freighter that had filled the underground tank incorrectly was the culprit.
Affected vehicle owners can claim reimbursement from the operator for fuel filling and repair costs, but bear the full burden of proof and send a sample of the fuel. The damage is covered by OMV’s insurance.
