The perpetrator, a 44-year-old Canadian, has now been convicted for the second time for the brutal attack on the husband of American politician Nancy Pelosi. This time, a San Francisco court handed the hammer attacker a life sentence without parole.
David DePape was sentenced to 30 years in prison in May. Pelosi’s family said Tuesday that the life sentence provides a measure of justice and “sends a message to others that political violence against elected officials or their family members will not be tolerated, trivialized or condoned.”
The perpetrator targeted Nancy Pelosi
DePape broke into the home of the then Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives in San Francisco in October 2022. The proponent of right-wing extremist conspiracy myths targeted the top politician, who was in the capital Washington at the time.
A scuffle broke out between the perpetrator and the 82-year-old. Canadian Paul Pelosi broke his skull with a hammer. The victim survived the attack, but subsequently spent a week in hospital.
