Thinking it would ruin their photos and their tans, two Brazilian influencers threw away life jackets for a yacht party. A wave hit their boat and it sank. The two women, aged 37 and 27, drowned in the accident.
At the end of September they wanted to celebrate extensively on a luxury yacht, but life jackets were not a suitable accessory for the two women that day. They wanted to return to the coast after the party and switched to a smaller boat. The captain said he was forced to take six influencers with him even though the vehicle was only allowed to carry five people.
According to her Instagram profile, Aline Tamara Moreira de Amorim enjoyed traveling on boats – in the photos she never wore a life jacket:
“They said the vests hinder tanning”
“Some didn’t want to wear them because they were taking selfies,” said Sao Vincente police chief Marcos Alexandre Alfino, describing the situation a few days ago. “They said they were interfering with tanning.” When a huge wave hit the boat, the partygoers must have bitterly regretted this decision. The boat sank due to the floods. The captain and four passengers survived. The bodies of the two drowned people, Aline Tamara Moreira de Amorim and Beatriz Tavares da Silva Faria, washed up on the shore after a few days.
Survivor: “Very strong waves, almost death”
The captain told police he was desperately trying to save everyone. One survivor described the pain after the accident: “The waves were very strong, we almost died. We couldn’t swim,” Camila said. She had just gotten her hands on a life jacket and was clinging to it. “I knew I wouldn’t last long. I hurt my foot and swallowed a lot of water.”

The 37-year-old influencer who drowned also could not swim. She leaves behind a child. The 27-year-old victim was a CrossFit trainer and had worked as a model since her school days.
Investigations are underway
In the meantime, it is being investigated whether the deaths could have been prevented. “All of this will be carefully investigated to determine whether the deaths were the result of recklessness or negligence,” said Police Chief Alfino.
