After the violent death of a 15-year-old in Salzgitter, Germany, a 14-year-old suspect is incarcerated on suspicion of murder. This was announced by the spokesman for the public prosecutor of Braunschweig, Hans Christian Wolters. Another suspect is a 13-year-old boy.
The girl was suffocated, the spokesman said. “The investigation has yet to show exactly how the suffocation could have happened,” said Wolters. The alleged perpetrators and victims came from the same neighborhood and also had contact with each other.
“Apparently developed enmity”
“It is clear that, at least from the point of view of the perpetrators, there was animosity and the whole affair apparently escalated,” Wolters told the broadcaster.
The Public Prosecution Service assumes murder and sees basic motives. According to the initial findings, the crime was insidious because the victim’s suspicion and defenselessness for the crime was exploited.
Accommodation in a closed facility
The 13-year-old cannot be prosecuted for the act because he is not yet of criminal age. Youth care must now decide to what extent further measures are necessary for him, according to the spokesperson for the Public Prosecution Service. Shelter in a closed facility would be an option.
Officials discovered the 15-year-old’s body on Tuesday in a park in Salzgitter-Fredenberg. The girl had been missing since Sunday.
