The adviser has assured that the purpose of the meeting with Mercedes is to talk about the team’s problems, but above all about the new investments.

Minister Arantxa Tapia will accompany the Lehendakari, Iñigo Urkullu, on his trip to Germany to meet with Mercedes Benz management to “talk especially about the new investments”.

“Our goal in Germany is to talk about the problems of the workforce, but above all about new investments, support and public-private partnerships,” the minister assured on Wednesday before entering the Basque parliament.

As he explained, the Ministry of Economic Development, Sustainability and Environment has prepared a trip “to help some German multinationals in the Basque Country, including Mercedes”. The minister has assured that it is the Vaso government’s intention to “attach special importance” to this meeting in which the Lehendakari will participate.

During his visit to Germany, Tapia will also meet the directors of other companies, such as Bayern, because of its presence in Viralgen, or Triumph, because of its presence in Gasteiz.

Likewise, they will visit a technology center specializing in areas of interest in the Basque Country. It will be a week-long journey in which they will coincide with the Lehendakari in the meeting with those responsible for Mercedes Benz in Stuttgart.

Strike at Mercedes

Asked about the Mercedes workers’ strike in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Tapia said they are relying on the ability of the committee and company management to reach an agreement. In that sense, he stated that “they have been working on this aspect for a while”.

“We know the difficulty of the situation, the uncertainties and the illusion caused by being able to have a large factory for the future with a relevant investment and at the same time we are faced with an uncertain economic situation. We know what the determining factors are , but we trust that it can be carried out successfully.
