Cats besiege US presidential candidate Donald Trump’s estate in New York.
Normally, the birthplaces of American presidents are turned into museums – or at least listed as historical monuments. That is not the case in the case of Donald Trump’s childhood home in the New York suburb of Queens. To the annoyance of the neighbors, it is rotting and inhabited by stray cats.
The two-story “eyesore” — quote from neighbor Deborah Ayala-Braun on “Curbed” — was purchased by the investment firm Trump Birth House LLC in 2017 for $2.14 million. She wanted to make a fortune in short-term rentals and advertised: “Live in the house where Baby Donald moved in with his parents Fred and Mary Trump in 1946.”
But interest in the Tudor-style building where the ex-president spent the first four years of his life left much to be desired, especially in the last four years. According to Ayala-Braun, there are more than a dozen stray cats living in the front yard: “It smells terribly like cat urine.” A sign indicates that the animals are not allowed to be taken home (see photo above).
