The Chinese astronauts of the “Shenzhou 18” (Magic Ship) mission have returned safely to Earth. Ye Guangfu, Li Cong and Li Guangsu landed early Monday morning (local time) in the Gobi Desert, located in the north of China’s Inner Mongolia.
According to China’s Manned Space Administration, all taikonauts had left the capsule almost an hour after landing. According to China’s official news agency Xinhua, the trio is in good health.
The crew was in space for six months
The men left for the ‘Tiangong’ (Sky Palace) space station at the end of April this year and spent about six months in space. There they carried out work outside the station and various scientific experiments. In May, they completed the longest spacewalk ever performed by the Chinese.
Before their return, the three astronauts welcomed the new residents of the space station. The “Shenzhou 19” mission reached the “Tiangong” last Wednesday. The three-member team, consisting of commander Cai Xuzhe, engineer Wang Haoze and former air force pilot Song Lingdong, is also expected to stay in space for six months.
