New owner, lots of problems! His landlord pressured the Salzburg resident to sign a new lease, including significantly worse terms. Only after a long intervention did the late U-turn follow…
“I’m excited, I don’t really trust the whole thing yet.” Fejdulah Delic should actually be satisfied, but skepticism still prevails for the time being. Too much has happened in recent weeks and months. “I was completely surprised,” says Delic.
New owner
First of all: the Salzburger lives in a house near Salzburg’s main station. The apartment complex on Ferdinand-Porsche-Straße has a new owner since this summer. The house is now owned by a real estate company based in Lungau. Many of the residents – such as Fejdulah Delic – have permanent rental contracts. This will probably be a thorn in the side of the new owner.
He went to the station area, rang the bell for the residents and urged them to sign new lease agreements. These were now suddenly limited. Fejdulah Delic also signed such a contract. “It all happened so quickly, I even co-signed for my parents’ apartment. No one even asked me if I had power of attorney to do this,” he recalls.
Contact with Chamber of Labour
However, it soon dawned on him that something must have gone wrong here. Delic turned to the Chamber of Labor (AK). “Those affected were not informed of their right to withdraw, which allowed us to intervene anyway,” says AK tenancy law expert Anna Riegel-Kilzer.
After long discussions, it is now clear: Delic can continue to rely on its old lease agreement. But: “Numerous people have been affected. A new agreement with the landlord is required each time,” says Riegel-Kitzer. We are currently still fighting for a solution for two tenants. The expert’s call: “It is better to come to us before signing.”
