The 17-year-old announced concrete attack plans for Vienna via the internet last year. Shortly afterwards he stood in the station of Vienna’s main train station with a knife. However, he stopped the terrible act soon after. During his trial in April, he was released after a month in prison. Now the teenager has been arrested again for terrorist plans.
Accordingly, the youth was arrested again on Wednesday for radical Islamist activities. He is said to have posted relevant messages on social media again. The Public Prosecution Service confirmed to the Crown that the imposition of pre-trial detention had been requested – due to the risk of committing a crime and the suspicion of membership of a terrorist organization.
The attack plan on the central station was just canceled
In September 2023, the teenager wanted to commit an attack in Vienna by initially trying to sow uncertainty among passers-by with a fireworks-like fireworks display. He would also not have shied away from another knife attack. He posted his plans on social networks.
Plans cancelled
Armed with a knife and dressed in a camouflage suit, the then 16-year-old went to Vienna’s main station, but shortly afterwards he canceled his plans and spent the night in a mosque. Days later he was arrested by WEGA officers.
During his trial for terrorist organization and criminal organization, he was sentenced to 24 months, of which he had to spend eight months in prison. He had been in pre-trial detention for almost seven years, this was taken into account – he was released after a month. He also had to participate in a deradicalization program.
However, it is unlikely that he abandoned IS ideas after his release from prison.
