Drugs, weapons, extortion, violence – having to be a member of a drug gang in Italian ports for 16 years. But the Albanian fled in time. Now the 32-year-old went into the net with us.
“Operation Daku” was one of the biggest anti-drug attacks by the Italian police in the past ten years: the drug gang that broke up in 2012 is said to have smuggled more than half a ton of cocaine and marijuana from Albania to Terni, making millions in the illegal trade. On 15 prime suspects, who did their business from a park bench, the handcuffs clicked once during entry.
However, one of the big criminal fish managed to escape in time. Drug and arms trafficking, extortion, coercion and serious bodily harm – the list of offenses charged against him is almost endless. For which the Albanian refugee was sentenced in absentia to a total of 16 years in prison.
Until recently, the now 32-year-old wanted man had successfully hidden himself from Italian justice. But now his escape has come to an end – and thanks to Austrian investigators, the suspect had apparently refocused on the criminal “job market” and joined a gang of burglars. Which could be blown up by the criminals a few weeks ago.
Delivery to the border
Due to further investigations still ongoing, they are not willing to disclose any further details about the access. The alarm bells of the search computer did ring when the Albanian was checked. And so the Italian authorities were immediately notified – who immediately submitted an extradition request. A few days ago, the 32-year-old was handed over to his neighbor colleagues at the border crossing in Arnoldstein.
