Question of the week – Amalgam ban: Will dental treatments become a luxury?

Date:

Because there is still no agreement between the health insurer and the dental association, it currently unfortunately looks like dental fillings will have to be paid for by the doctor himself from 2025. This can make a visit to the dentist significantly more expensive for many people. Can you still afford dental fillings?

If there is still no agreement, the 7.4 million health insured people in Austria will have to pay between 70 and 150 euros per dental filling when visiting the dentist from 2025. The reason for the changes in this area is a new EU requirement. From next year, amalgam fillings will be banned throughout the EU.

What do you think in principle about banning mercury-containing amalgam in dental treatments? What prevents the health insurer and the dental association from finding a solution? To what extent do you experience the current situation that you have to pay for the fillings yourself from next year? Can you still afford to go to the dentist or will it become a luxury for you? We’d love to hear your thoughts and look forward to hearing your thoughts in the comments!
