Presumably due to microsleep, a truck driver left the road on Monday evening on the “Pyhrn” near Traboch (Leoben district) and fell over. The rescue of the transporter of dangerous goods was difficult and took several hours.
According to initial investigations, the man from Bosnia and Herzegovina may have left the highway around 2:30 am due to microsleep. The hazardous materials transporter hit the embankment and tilted to the right, even though the driver tried to counter-steer.
The 30-year-old Bosnian escaped with minor injuries. Fortunately, no fluid leaked from the truck combination, which was filled with bitumen.
Emergency services tried to save the accident car as quickly as possible. A special crane had to be requested for this. The entire operation took several hours. The Pyhrnautbahn was only accessible in one lane at the scene of the accident. A diversion via the B113 was set up for the duration of the rescue operation, because the road towards Graz had to be completely closed.
