The International Criminal Court (ICC) is investigating alleged sexual misconduct against chief prosecutor Karim Khan. The administrative body of the court in The Hague will start an external investigation, it said in a statement on Monday.
The court confirmed a report from the Reuters news agency on Friday. Khan announced in his own statement that he would continue to carry out his central duties
Khan denies the allegations
Processes related to the indictment would be taken over by deputy chief prosecutors. Khan has denied the allegations. These were published last month.
Citing two insiders, Reuters reported that the governing body – the Assembly of States Parties – decided on the external investigation on Thursday. While Khan asked for it to be implemented by the responsible internal supervisor, the alleged victim is said to have no confidence in the committee: the new boss is said to be a former member of Khan’s staff.
This year, an arrest warrant was issued against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and against leaders of the radical Islamic Hamas militia. Those affected have denied respective accusations related to the wars in Ukraine and Gaza.
