The end of summer time is the first harbinger of the approaching winter, the start of sales of the digital car vignette is as follows: it is available now, but is only valid from December 1 at the earliest. Unlike last year, the price for the annual vignette will increase again this time.
The self-adhesive vignette – for the year 2025 it is sea green – will only be available from the usual sales points from November 21. These – such as car clubs, petrol stations, tobacconists, Forstinger and ATU – are allowed to sell the digital version more than a week in advance. It can also be obtained online from Asfinag or in the companion app.
Advantages of the digital vignette
Once the license plate is registered, there is no longer any need to stick and scrape and a replacement vignette is no longer necessary if the window is broken. Even owners of variable license plates no longer need a separate vignette for each vehicle. If you purchase a digital vignette at a physical point of sale, it is valid immediately after purchase, because the withdrawal period of 18 days before the start of validity (applies to online purchases) does not apply. The validity of the 2025 vignettes starts on December 1, 2024.
New since last year is that from December 1 you can also re-register the digital vignette if, for example, you have received a new license plate due to a change of vehicle (costs 18 euros). However, you have to take care of it. For example, people often forget to register again if they have changed their place of residence.
If you want to switch from the self-adhesive to the digital vignette ‘during the year’, you can do so free of charge in only two cases: in the event of breakage of the windscreen or in the event of a total loss.
Annual vignette above 100 euros for the first time
New since last year is the one-day vignette. As the name suggests, this vignette is only valid for one day and is therefore particularly interesting for tourists and other people passing through. It costs 9.30 euros.
The price for the ten-day vignette, which is mainly used by holidaymakers, will be increased from 11.50 euros to 12.40 euros. The two-month vignette will now cost 31.30 euros instead of 28.90 euros. The price for the annual vignette, which remained exceptionally stable last year, increased by 7.7 percent to 103.80.
The prices for the 2025 vignette at a glance:
- Annual vignette: 103.80 euros for cars or 41.50 euros for motorcycles
- Two-month vignette: 31.10 euros for cars or 12.40 euros for motorcycles
- Ten-day vignette: 12.40 euros for cars or 4.90 euros for motorcycles
- 1-day vignette: 9.30 euros for cars or 3.70 euros for motorcycles
As always, the annual vignette is valid for 14 months, starting on December 1, 2024 and ending on January 31, 2026. All motor vehicles up to 3.5 tons are required to have a vignette.
Please note the delivery time when purchasing a vignette!
If you do not have a current vignette and you want to use the digital annual vignette from December 1, you must purchase it online no later than Wednesday, November 13 to ensure that it is valid on time. The reason for this is the consumer protection period for online purchases. Because: According to the European Consumer Protection Directive, customers can refrain from purchasing a product or service online – the digital vignette is therefore only valid for 18 days after the purchase.
Unlike the annual vignette, the one-day and ten-day vignettes are also immediately valid when purchased online, but you can opt for a validity period from December 1 at the earliest.
Another tip:
It is really proactive to activate the subscription service when purchasing the new digital vignette. The validity of an annual vignette will then be automatically extended and you cannot forget to purchase the vignette. This also works if you switch to a new car, as long as you continue to use your license plate – the vignette is attached to it.
