The municipality has temporarily banned the granting of new permits throughout the city until the reform of the General Urban Plan, which aims to regulate the implementation of this type of housing, is completed.
The municipal council of Bilbao has suspended the granting of new licenses for the opening of apartments for tourist use throughout the villa for a maximum period of one year. The decision was published yesterday, Tuesday, in the Bizkaia Government Gazette and is therefore already in force.
The decision was adopted by the municipal government on October 30. This measure is adopted therein as a precaution until the reform of the General Urban Plan is completed. No new permits will be issued during this period.
According to data collected by EITB DATA in May, the capital of Biscay has done just that 934 apartments for tourist usethe majority are in the Siete Calles or in the Ibaiondo district (261), followed by Abando and Indautxu (202). Uribarri, Begoña and Deustu-Ibarrekolanda complete the list, accounting for 83% of tourist properties.
In this context, it is worth remembering that in October the Supreme Court approved that neighborhood communities with a three-fifths majority can ban tourist rentals, which is expected to limit its expansion in the cities.
