Just 50 kilometers from the Austrian border, an unimaginable animal tragedy took place in Hungary today. According to local animal rights activists, it concerns a well-known Austrian woman who already has a ban on dogs in her home country.
“I’ve been through a lot in the field of animal protection, but I’ve never seen anything like this,” said Tamara Miskolczi, who is struggling to control herself. The Hungarian heads the animal protection organization “Pfotenzukunft” and is part of the police operation in Csönge.

The images and videos shared with “Krone” are truly breathtaking. Shown: A large contingent of police, Hungarian media representatives and animal rescuers show up unannounced in front of the hamster farm of an Austrian woman who runs a large-scale ‘dog breeding station’ there. Because the word ‘breeding’ is probably out of place here.
Between waste, skeletal parts and dirt, about 200 dogs live behind bars, which have absolutely nothing to do with species-specific and loving upbringing. At first glance, you might suspect a particularly tragic case of ‘animal hoarding’ – the pathological collecting of animals until everything spirals out of control.
But this case is different. There could be pure intention behind this situation, as the animal’s owner, Brigitta M., is reportedly not a stranger. “As far as we know, Ms. M. has a number of complaints about animal cruelty and illegal trade, as well as an existing ban on keeping dogs in Austria. That’s why she moved to Hungary and we got to know her,” says animal rights activist Miskolczi.
“Sells dogs to Austria and Germany”
“She has been breeding and selling her dogs to Austria and Germany for years,” says Miskolczi. And further: “I was just there when the police raided the house. Mrs. M. pretended to be asleep even though all the dogs were barking like crazy and the place was full of people, it’s unbelievable.”
According to the emergency services on site, some animals are very aggressive, even the puppies show unusual behavior or are completely lethargic.
Papers signed by the Graz vet
During her on-site inspection, the observant animal rights activist said she also noticed health papers signed by a veterinarian from Graz. Whether the veterinarian was aware of the conditions at his client’s Hungarian farm must now be the subject of investigation.
“The ‘Pfotenzukunft’ informed us last week that a larger operation would take place. As an immediate measure, we have sent a pallet of food to ensure the care of the animals. “The situation is still confusing at the moment and the lady’s second property is currently being searched,” said Maggie Entenfellner, manager of the “Krone” animal corner.
Never buy animals through online advertisements!
At the other location, another approximately 150 dogs, as well as birds, donkeys and small animals, were seized. “The case once again shows what lies behind beautifully designed online advertisements. I hope that cross-border work is being done here and that the lady can be stopped once and for all,” said Entenfellner.
The seized dogs are currently being distributed to various aid organizations in Hungary. Whether nursing places are needed in Austria must first be legally clarified. We will continue to report on new events on an ongoing basis.
