Uproar ahead of G20 summit – Brazil’s First Lady insults Musk: “F… you!”

Date:

Brazil’s First Lady Rosangela ‘Janja’ da Silva insulted high-tech billionaire Elon Musk during a public appearance shortly before the start of the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro. A video of their performance quickly spread on Musk’s platform X. He responded by saying, “You will lose the next election.”

During a panel discussion on disinformation at the G20 social summit on Saturday, she called for regulation of online networks. Suddenly she was startled and ducked away. “I think it’s Elon Musk. Anyway, I’m not even afraid of you. Fuck you, Elon Musk!” she said (see video in the post below).

Legal problem with X in Brazil
The multi-billionaire recently faced legal problems in Brazil. The Supreme Court has now blocked his online service X. Judge Alexandre de Morae justified the order by saying that the spread of false information through the platform must be prevented. Musk, in turn, repeatedly urged freedom of expression and sharply criticized the judge. After more than a month, the ban was finally lifted in early October.

Musk was recently appointed by newly elected US President Donald Trump to head a new efficiency department. This department, which is not part of the government, is expected to present plans for job cuts and restructuring of the civil service to drastically reduce costs.

Ally of Lula’s predecessor
Musk is also an ally of Lula’s predecessor, Jair Bolsonaro. He was found guilty of abuse of office after the attempted coup in January 2023. The Brazilian judiciary deprived the right-wing extremist ex-president of his political rights for eight years, meaning he can no longer run for office. Bolsonaro has made no secret of his intention to run again for the 2026 elections.

The two-day G20 summit starts on Monday. During the meeting in Rio de Janeiro, several working sessions will take place, covering, among other things, the fight against hunger and poverty and the global energy transition.
