Homeless murderer, a ghost for weeks, now before the jury

Date:

The trial of a high school student who murdered homeless people begins Monday in the Vienna Regional Court. His targets weren’t specifically homeless people; Thomas A. roamed the streets looking for defenseless victims. The motive of the now 18-year-old Viennese for the terrible acts: “Anger, unrest and sadness.”

At night he wakes up in his cell covered in sweat, while his terrible actions haunt the 18-year-old defendant in his dreams. Monday and Tuesday Thomas A. (name changed) to be confronted again in detail with his crimes – he has to appear before the jury in the Viennese countryside for double murder and attempted murder: between July 12 and August 9, 2023, the teenager stabbed two sleeping homeless people, and another victim survived seriously injured.

The death of his stepsister threw him off track
The history is tragic and also introduces the eight-page indictment. In 2021, the suspect’s stepsister died at just four years old – the girl was shot by her mother during a prolonged suicide. Thomas A.’s post-traumatic stress disorder is just one of many mental illnesses that a total of five experts will speak about in the lawsuit. According to the StA Vienna, the suspect cited “inner anger, restlessness and endless sadness” as his motive.

The teen turned himself in
Thomas A. is classified as dangerous because of a serious personality disorder. He was healthy when he committed his actions; he faces fifteen years in prison and incarceration. The fact that the young person turned himself in in December 2023 can be seen as mitigating – with the words: “I am the wanted homeless murderer”.

“My client has confessed and deeply regrets his actions,” his lawyer Manfred Arbacher-Stöger said before the trial, which was also attended by the international press.
