A single-engine plane crashed in a parking lot in the US state of California. The machine swept away cars and mobile homes – one truck was said to have been literally torn apart. Four people were injured in the blazing incident.
A car race was taking place near the accident site – according to ABC7, the small plane crashed not far from the grandstand. No one on the ground was injured, but the Piper PA-32 took about five cars and three RVs.
According to witnesses, the truck was “cut in half”
“It was a shock to me to see a plane cut an entire truck in half, from the roof to the door,” said witness Tristan Szalonek, describing the dramatic scenes.
The fire brigade was already in the area
Police said the pilot and three passengers suffered “minor to moderate injuries that are not life-threatening” and were taken to a nearby hospital. Firefighters who were in the area because of the car race were able to quickly reach the scene of the accident.
The pilot had attempted to land at a nearby airport before the crash. It is not known where the plane came from and the accident is under investigation.
