During a trip to the forest, three teenagers fell into a ten-meter deep shaft in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate on Sunday evening. Rescuers from the mountain rescue service were able to save the young people; according to police, all accident victims suffered serious injuries.
The young people managed to call the emergency number themselves, reports ‘Bild’. Mountain rescue services, police and fire brigade rushed to the scene of the accident in a dark forest area in the Eifel near the town of Mendig and were able to pull the three out of the shaft.
The teen’s life is in danger
“One person was seriously injured, the two other young people were also seriously injured,” a police spokesperson said. All three were taken to hospitals. On Monday morning, one of the teenagers was still in mortal danger.
The rescue operation took about five hours. It is still unclear exactly how the accident could have happened. There is a quarry close to the accident site.
