It is thanks to the courageous intervention of a neighbor, a fire doctor, that a couple from Upper Styria escaped the horrors of the fire in their house. The attic was on fire.
On Tuesday evening at 1.27 pm, the Gröbming and Gröbming Winkl fire brigades were called to the fire in the center of the market town. Due to the strong flames, the operations manager immediately ordered more fire brigades to be alerted, and a vehicle with a turntable ladder arrived from Schladming.
Use under heavy respiratory protection
An extensive extinguishing attack was launched from the outside at the roof structure and at the same time the interior attack was carried out with heavy breathing protection. The images give an idea of the drama of the fire.
Even before the first fire brigade arrived, a neighbor was able to rescue the residents, a couple, outside. The brave man was the department fire chief who immediately knew what to do. The victims therefore remained unharmed.
Huge damage
After about an hour the fire was under control and the flames could be prevented from spreading to neighboring buildings. “Fire out” was given shortly after 4 a.m. on Sunday morning. The damage to the house is enormous, the exact amount is still unknown.
