End of Tesla protest – German police pulled activists from trees

Date:

The protest camp against the electric manufacturer Tesla in Grünheide near Berlin is now finally being dismantled (see video above). As some activists refused to leave the treetops and tree houses, they were taken down by specially trained teams. There were 31 advertisements in total.

18 people were taken into custody so that police could determine their identities. Among them were people from Germany, France and Austria. Police broke up the camp of the Stop Water Occupation Tesla initiative on Tuesday. However, some activists refused to leave the treetops and tree houses. They were brought in by specially trained police teams.

The Potsdam Police Department said the last of the 20 treehouse buildings will be brought down in a controlled manner on Thursday. The protest camp was set up about nine months ago and the police imposed a number of conditions at the time. The initially 80 to 100 activists were not allowed to light fires and were allowed to build a maximum of 15 buildings in the forest.

Police: Violations of requirements
On Monday, the police announced that it was not an evacuation, but that the area would be temporarily cleared. However, a day later there was talk of criminal offenses and violations of the requirements. The meeting was dissolved. At the same time, the municipality of Grünheide issued a general decision banning access to the site indefinitely.

The American electric car manufacturer Tesla operates a factory in Grünheide and wants to double production to one million vehicles per year in the future. The group also builds battery cells for electric vehicles. On October 15, the Brandenburg Ministry of the Environment gave a first partial approval for the company’s expansion plans.
