Family knew nothing – mother drove 2000 km to the date, left toddler at home

Date:

Reese Louise Myers (25) is a young single mother from Killeen, Texas. And, to put it innocently: irresponsible. She left her 16-month-old son and dogs home alone for a date – 1,200 miles from her hometown!

The young woman did not hire a babysitter and her family knew nothing about Reese’s “trip.” The fact that the child survived is thanks to an observant passerby.

According to the Killeen Police investigation report, a passerby called 911 in late July: “The man saw a toddler sticking his leg and head out of a cardboard-lined window on the first floor of an apartment building.”

The boy was covered in feces and protected by dogs
When the man rang the doorbell, he only heard the barking of ‘very aggressive sounding dogs’. When police broke down the apartment door, they found a young boy wearing only a T-shirt: “He had a rash on his legs and his own feces on his face and arms. The dogs tried to protect him from our officers.”

Babysitter didn’t know anything
The police immediately contacted the mother by telephone. She said she was on her way to a date. She was only gone for three hours and had hired a babysitter. But when the police asked the babysitter, she had no idea. She hasn’t heard from Reese in months and hasn’t received any orders. It is unclear how long Reese left the child and dogs alone.

The mother was asked by the police to go home immediately and turn herself in. Instead, she escaped and wasn’t discovered until November – after more than three months! – located – and arrested – at the Fort Irwin Army base in San Bernardino, California.

She is charged with aggravated child endangerment and is being held in the Bell County Jail. Her son was handed over to youth care and placed in a foster home.
