Hundreds of trains were canceled in Italy on Sunday due to a railway strike.
The strike from Saturday 9 p.m. to Sunday 9 p.m. affected the staff of the Italian State Railways (FS – Ferrovie dello Stato) and the regional company Trenord from Lombardy.
The strike led to train cancellations on regional lines and high-speed trains.
Long queues at the counters
Long lines formed at the ticket counters at Italy’s largest train stations. Travelers looked for information to reach their destination. The strikes were called by Italy’s strongest trade union federations, demanding the renewal of collective labor agreements.
“Personnel in danger”
They also protested “inadequate salaries and the constant threat of attacks” on public transport workers. Given the repeated attacks, unions are calling for more security measures.
