More than 45,000 workers are being called to vote to elect 355 deputies, 39 more than in the previous election. Currently, ELA and the nurses association SATSE account for almost half of the representation in the sector, at 48%.

The more than 45,000 people who make up the workforce of Osakidetza are called to the polls on Thursday in the first union elections since 2013 —2014, in Gipuzkoa—.

The union meeting comes in one key moment for the Basque Health Service, when the parties – with the exception of ELA and ESK, which are not participating – negotiate the Health Pact with the aim of “transforming Osakidetza” and returning “excellence” to the healthcare system.

The date was announced in July, following an agreement at the sectoral table between the Directorate General of Osakidetza and the unions represented in the Basque Health Service.

The team – everyone who has a contract with Osakidetza from November 28 – chooses a total 355 delegates39 more than in the previous match. 82 voting tables have been set up, spread over the various centers and OSIs. As for hours, in hospitals you can vote from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.; from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in primary care centers, and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the Central Organization and Emergency Situations. Voting by post has also been made possible.

IF is currently the union with the most representatives in Osakidetza, with 76 delegates, closely followed by SATSEwith 74. Both centers bring together almost half of the representation. Some distance away is LAB, with 39 delegates; SMEs, with 33; CC.OO., with 30; UGT, with 23; ESK and the Nursing Auxiliary Union (USAE), with 18 each, and USO, with one delegate. These eight trade union organizations have also put themselves forward this time.
