10 years of pioneering work for our food

Date:

Today the association “Land Creates Life” celebrates its tenth anniversary. The team around Maria Fanninger and Hannes Royer has been taking a closer look at what we Austrians have on our plates since 2014! On the anniversary it is clear: increasing awareness for food is more important today than ever.

“People are disconnected from their diet, they make their purchasing decisions mainly based on price.” It was this insight that led organic miner Hannes Royer and entrepreneur Maria Fanninger to found the non-profit organization ‘Land Creates Life’ in 2014. to be determined.

Since then, they have been providing information about Austrian food and its production, as well as its impact on the environment and health. In the award-winning podcast ‘If you know nothing, you have to eat everything’, during lectures at schools or on social media channels, anyone interested can find out everything about the subject of ‘food’.

“It’s incredible how much has happened in the food sector in the past ten years. People are becoming increasingly interested in where their food comes from and how it is produced, and this is also becoming increasingly important in the catering industry,” the founding duo summarizes after ten years.

Price is crucial
At the same time, however, inflation ensures that price is increasingly becoming the decisive criterion when purchasing. “Over the next decade we will have plenty of work to do to make people understand that what we eat every day is anything but irrelevant. Because every time we reach for the shelf, we place a production order,” warns Hannes Royer.

The newspaper ‘Kronen’ also regularly reports on how important it is to know about these topics. “It is literally about our ‘means of livelihood’. What we consume every day is of great importance. Not only for our health, but also for our environment. Avoiding the use of food, animal welfare in meat production and correct labeling of the origin of the product are important cornerstones for me!”, says Maggie Entenfellner, animal corner manager of “Krone”.

She also served for many years on the association’s council of wise men and is deeply committed to educational work. Having grown up on a farm himself, Entenfellner demands: “It cannot be that an animal has to suffer so much in this country where we are doing so well.”

The work of ‘Land Creates Life’ is done when Austrians consume consciously. However, this requires not only awareness, but also transparency.
