In Ukraine, a woman from the eastern Donetsk region was sentenced to 15 years in prison for treason on Thursday. She is said to have transferred militarily sensitive information to Russia. Just one of perhaps thousands of espionage cases.
“She photographed military installations, determined their GPS coordinates, provided their exact addresses and took screenshots of Google Maps,” prosecutors said.
She passed on the data thus obtained to “the enemy secret service for the destruction” (of the military installations). The woman is said to have moved to the city of Zhytomyr last year and made contact with an officer of the Russian military intelligence service.
Thousands of cases started
Ukrainian judicial authorities have opened thousands of cases on suspicion of collaborating with Russia since Russia’s war of aggression against the country began in February 2022.
