An incredible case of fuel theft has now come to light in the Tyrolean lowlands: seven truck drivers have been allegedly stealing diesel on a large scale for years. We are talking about several hundred thousand liters – at the expense of the company that employs them. The company suffered damage of almost half a million euros.
For years, the criminal activities apparently went unnoticed – it was only in mid-October that the transport company, which has its headquarters in Tyrol, reported the crime to the police. Then the enormous scale of it became clear: it was fuel theft on a large scale.
Actions back to 2021
In concrete terms, since 2021 (!), truck drivers from the company in question are said to have stolen or stole enormous amounts of diesel from a gas station in the Kufstein district when refueling their vans. At the expense of the company they worked for. “It concerns a total of more than 300,000 liters,” says a researcher in response to the question from “Krone”.
Seven arrests in key operation
After extensive investigation, the police were ultimately able to identify seven suspects. In a targeted action, six Romanians between the ages of 26 and 55 and a 56-year-old Hungarian were arrested.
Half a million euros in damage
How did the suspected perpetrators proceed? “The truck drivers paid for the fuel with their company fuel cards, but sometimes also filled the diesel in other vehicles or in jerry cans,” the researcher said. Diesel pumps and hoses were also seized during the operation.
The company suffered enormous damage. We are talking about almost half a million euros. The suspects have now been released. Corresponding reports and studies will follow.
