Open your eyes on Mannersdorferstrasse in Angern an der March in Lower Austria! A homeless turkey has been hanging out there for a long time. There is already speculation about who owns the poultry. But one thing is certain: some people have already grown fond of the bird.
“A free-roaming turkey rescued in Angern an der March. Unfortunately I didn’t take a picture, but as far as I saw he didn’t have a license plate etc. on his foot,” said a resident of the area on Facebook a few days ago. And lo and behold: the animal was by no means unknown in the area.
Where does turkey come from?
“He has been causing mischief in Mannersdorferstrasse for months,” says Johann Hübl from Angern an der March. Another resident had already gotten in the way of the stray chicken. But the owner’s question has not yet been clarified.
It was speculated that the plumage probably belonged to the local vet. But Mayor Robert Meißl could not confirm this to the “Krone”: “I have already spoken to the vet. He doesn’t have a turkey with him.” The SPÖ politician has never encountered the animal himself. He also doubts whether the bird has a rightful owner. Nevertheless, Meißl assures: “We will continue to keep our eyes open for the animal.”
Turkey as a personal alarm clock
Anyone who already knows the animal well and has even given it the name “Thomas” is Hübel. He first met “Thomas” in March this year. “From that moment on, it was our alarm clock, so to speak,” laughs the Lower Austrian in an interview with the “Krone”. Drivers may also be familiar with the rooster. Since “Thomas” was present, Mannersdorferstrasse has been kept at walking pace.
Animals should not be underestimated
Although the poultry is not dangerous, the mayor knows that children in particular should not underestimate the turkey: “The animal has sharp claws.” Unfortunately, ‘Thomas’ also looks a bit neglected…
