Help for girls – crowdfunding for the most expensive drug in the world

In Egypt, a little girl’s family has raised 40 million Egyptian pounds (the equivalent of about two million euros) for a Novartis drug through crowdfunding on the internet. With the money she wants to have the child treated for a hereditary disease.

The drug Zolgensma from the Swiss pharmaceutical giant is considered the most expensive drug in the world, the Arabic-language TV channel “Al Arabiya” reported on Saturday. A single injection into the spinal cord costs the equivalent of about two million Swiss francs (equivalent to 1.99 million euros).

Zolgensma is used to treat spinal muscular atrophy. The disease of certain nerve cells in the spinal cord leads to muscle breakdown. The drug should be given to the little patients before they reach the age of two years.

Students donated money for graduation ceremony
According to the media report, the girl from the Egyptian city of Alexandria is one year and 11 months old and suffers from a type of disease that mainly affects the legs.

Prominent Egyptian businessmen, actors and athletes, among others, took part in the fundraiser, Al Arabiya wrote. Students of the economics faculty of Cairo University forgot their graduation ceremony and donated the appropriate money.
