Since a tragic bicycle fall, Christian Fillek from the Waldviertel has had to be ventilated 24 hours a day. Now the 56-year-old received an urgently needed replacement device.
From one second to the next, everything suddenly changed: June 3, 2023, Christian Fillek’s life changed forever – and that of his family. During a stay at a spa, the 56-year-old suffered serious injuries when he fell on his bicycle. The bitter diagnosis: hemorrhage in the cervical vertebrae.
Life-saving second device
Since then, the Waldviertler has been in a wheelchair and dependent on a ventilator 24 hours a day. After months in intensive care, the 56-year-old was able to return home to his own four walls in May. “It’s worth a lot to be home,” he explains in an interview with the “Krone”. Since then, his wife Andrea has taken care of him with dedication. She receives support not only from nurse Katrin, but also from Helmut Scheuher.
The civil engineer came across the tragic fate of Christian Fillek while reading the newspaper and immediately wanted to help. “At first I thought it was a bad joke,” Andrea Fillek admits. But it soon became clear: Helmut Scheuher means business. An additional fan was financed together with the companies Böhm Fenster from Heidenreicherstein, Itech Elektro in Rohrbach an der Gölsen, Centtex Bau from St. Pölten and Glösmann Montage GmbH from Steinakirchen.
There was great joy at the ceremonial presentation of the replacement Vivisol device, which cost 8,500 euros. Water in the breathing tube has already caused an emergency in the middle of the night. You are now prepared for this.
Greatest wish for Christmas
But that’s not all: an urgently needed access ramp and a special access door will soon be organized by the engineering firm Scheuher and the Fenster Böhm company. Given the fulfillment of so many Christmas wishes, only one thing remains: “That it will all get better and that one day I can breathe again,” says Fillek.
