The food delivery company announced its decision a day before its top manager, Oscar Pierre, testified before a court in Barcelona, accused of a crime against workers’ rights.
Barcelona’s 31st Investigative Court began proceedings this year following a complaint filed by the Public Prosecutor’s Office against Glovo’s founder and CEO, Óscar Pierre.
In its complaint, the prosecutor’s office alleged that the company “undermines and suppresses” workers’ rights due to the riders’ false self-employed status. It therefore requests that Pierre be subpoenaed to declare that he is under investigation. He recalls in his writing that the Supreme Court, as well as other courts, have recognized the employment nature between Glovo and its employees, as have twenty courts that have established that relationship, mostly in dismissal processes.
