Jill Biden unveiled the White House Christmas decorations for the final time (see video above). This includes 165,075 lights, 38 Christmas trees and an oversized gingerbread house. Hundreds of volunteers spent a week furnishing the building.
This year’s motto is “Season of Peace and Light”. The decorations include 83 Christmas trees, almost 3,000 meters of ribbon, more than 28,000 decorative elements and exactly 165,075 lights. An illuminated carousel displays the names of all U.S. states and territories. Another highlight is an oversized gingerbread house, made with approximately 20 pounds of chocolate and 23 pounds of icing.
US President Joe Biden’s wife, Jill Biden, has always focused on classic, festive warmth and kitschy opulence in recent years. More than 300 volunteers spent more than a week decorating.
“Honor to serve you”
“For Joe and me, these are the last holidays in the White House. It has been the honor of our lives to serve you. May our nation be blessed with peace and light this holiday season,” Jill Biden said during the presentation. Volunteers, National Guard members and their families, among others, attended the event. Joe Biden was not there because he is currently in Angola, Africa. It is expected that around 100,000 visitors will look at the Christmas decorations in the future.
The design of this is traditionally left to the wife of the president in question. With Melania Trump, the style will likely change significantly. Until now, this has relied on minimalist and sometimes idiosyncratic designs.
