On Monday evening, masked men tried to break into the villa of former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, who died in 2023. The impressive building in Rome is now owned by the family.
Security staff had previously raised the alarm and reported masked men in the building on Via Appia Antica. The police were immediately on the scene, Italian media report. The invaders have now fled.
The burglars probably gained access to the extensive area, which also includes a large park, through a nearby home. From 2001 until his death in 2019, star director Franco Zeffirelli lived in the villa. Berlusconi let him live for free in the luxurious building with a swimming pool until his death. The villa was subsequently renovated, Berlusconi moved in in the autumn of 2020 and lived there on and off until his death in June 2023.
