A dramatic incident occurred on Saturday evening during the Advent wreath blessing in the parish church of Fischbach (Styria): Immediately at the beginning of the mass, the young priest completely lost his cool, shouted and rebelled. The rescue team arrived – hospital!
It was supposed to be a contemplative celebration, but it ended with a rescue operation and great consternation: as the Diocese of Graz-Seckau confirmed to the “Krone”, there were turbulent scenes in the parish church of Fischbach on Saturday evening.
Right at the end of my nerves
The young priest completely lost his nerve at the beginning of the mass, which was attended by numerous faithful. He panicked, shouted and rioted in the sanctuary. The shocked churchgoers, who had to endure the insults, tried to calm the priest, but they failed.
The Red Cross had to go out and take the priest, who had been struggling with health problems for a long time, to the hospital.
Pastor refused help
The shocked churchgoers informed the parish council, which in turn informed the diocese. Vicar General Erich Linhardt was deeply affected and apologized for the incident at the Advent wreath dedication: “We ask for forgiveness, also on behalf of our priest, who has apparently completely lost control of himself.” He was offered help, but he turned it down.
The parish is now being cared for by staff from the pastoral care room and the diocese’s crisis team has provided support.
