A leak has now been discovered in the “Druzhba” oil pipeline in Poland. “We assume that this will have no impact on the supply of crude oil,” said a spokesperson for owner Rosneft. The day before, it was reported from the Czech Republic that there was a malfunction.
The leak hit a line near the Polish town of Pniewy. The pipeline operator announced on Thursday that the site would be repaired and that the pipeline would be emptied. The part of the leaking pipe is replaced with a new one. There may be no disruption to business operations.
A spokesperson for the local fire brigade previously spoke of minor damage. Firefighters assisted the line operator’s team in locating and stopping the leak. Because the area was not inhabited, there was no danger to residents, it was said.
Not the first case
There have been several such damage cases in the past. In the Czech Republic, Industry Minister Lukas Vlcek said on Wednesday that no Russian oil is currently arriving via the southern part of the Druzhba pipeline. He initially did not provide any information about the reasons.
The pipeline runs with many branches over thousands of kilometers from Russia to Germany and other European countries. Germany has stopped importing Russian oil since 2023 due to the war in Ukraine. Kazakh oil and tanker oil from Gdansk also come via the “Druzhba”. There is no connection with Austria.
