After the Russian president has been largely isolated internationally since the start of the war of aggression against Ukraine in early February, his return to the political stage abroad seems imminent. Putin doesn’t travel particularly far, though – the trip goes to two former Soviet republics.
State television said Russian President Vladimir Putin is planning to travel abroad for the first time since Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24. Rossiya 1 reported on Sunday that he would visit the former Soviet republics of Tajikistan and Turkmenistan in the new week.
In Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, Putin is received by the respective presidents. Both countries are authoritarian.

He will also meet the heads of state and government of Iran, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan at a summit in Turkmenistan. Since Putin ordered the invasion of the neighboring country, he has made no publicly known visits abroad.
His last known foreign trip was to attend the Beijing Winter Olympics in early February. There he met Chinese President Xi Jinping.
