“I haven’t touched it at all,” says Vöcklabruck school director Regina Aigner. As reported, a skeletal baby body was found at her high school. She raised the alarm, also because she believes it is important that the gruesome discovery is handled respectfully. It is still unclear where the relic comes from.
“The baby skeleton was in a wooden box with a lid, like a coffin. When I was called to the basement, it was clear to me that I had to inform the community, the police and my superiors,” says Regina Aigner. She has been head of the secondary school for sports and integration (SIMS) in Vöcklabruck for two years.
The gruesome discovery was made during renovation work and the ‘Krone’ report on it was a national topic this weekend. It is still unclear where the dead child came from and how long it spent in the afterlife. “I didn’t touch it at all,” admits Aigner, who nevertheless looked closely at the bone child: “The fontanel was not yet closed and the hips did not seem fully developed either. So it must have really been a small baby.”
Postscript: “We assume that it was previously used as teaching material. In the past, people were not so sensitive to such things. I think it is important to be treated with respect.”
And then it is the turn of the BU cabinet
The next step would be to go through the biology cabinet in the 116-year-old former boys’ high school. Aigner wants to take a break from cleaning up for understandable reasons: “I think in a lot of older schools like ours there are surprises if you look closer.”
The approximately 48 teachers were asked on Monday to inform the 300 students, and the parents were also informed.
